A Little History

Founded in 1891, the town was named in honor of Captain William M. Eastland, who participated in the battle of San Jacinto. In 1917, oil was discovered and a boom was started which lasted until 1922.

Eastland Today

Eastland is well known for several area attractions. Lake Leon, 28,000 acres of wonderful fishing, is located seven miles southeast of the town. The Majestic Theatre, a beautiful, historical facility, was built by one of Eastland's founding fathers, C.U. Connellee, in 1920. It now features current hit films each Friday through Monday and houses Eastland's Little Theatre Group. The late Marene Johnson-Johnson and other stamp buffs created a Stamp Mural, which contains exactly 11,217 stamps. It is located in the Eastland Post Office and features a central image of Benjamin Franklin.
